Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force (UAPTF)

About

The Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force (UAPTF) was a program established by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) in August 2020 to investigate and understand unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), commonly referred to as UFOs. It served as a precursor to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), which expanded the scope of investigations. The UAPTF aimed to detect, analyze, and catalog UAPs that could potentially pose threats to U.S. national security. It focused on standardizing the reporting and investigation of UAP incidents, particularly those observed in or near military training ranges. The UAPTF reviewed video footage and other evidence of UAPs captured by military personnel. In June 2021, the UAPTF released a report titled "Preliminary Assessment: Unidentified Aerial Phenomena" to the U.S. Congress. The report analyzed 144 UAP incidents observed between 2004 and 2021. The work of the UAPTF generated significant public and Congressional interest in UAPs. Declassified videos, such as the widely discussed "Tic Tac" and "GoFast" UAPs, contributed to growing curiosity and concern about UAP phenomena.
